We offer a specialist Gastroenterology service to General Practitioners and patients.
Patients will require a referral from their GP, for consultation in the rooms and for an endoscopic procedure. Your GP may recommend direct referral for a procedure such as gastroscopy (examination of the upper gastrointestinal tract: including oesophagus; stomach; and duodenum, which is the very top part of the small intestine) or colonoscopy (examination of the lower gastrointestinal tract including the colon or large intestine; and very end of the small intestine called the terminal ileum. All procedures are done in the hospital setting with an anaesthetist providing sedation and care so that you will not waken or be aware of anything happening during the examination, along with specialised nursing staff.
Further information regarding procedures and preparation can be found in the patient information section. It is important that you understand all the procedure instructions prior to the day of your test.
You will receive a detailed report after the procedure. Any results from your examination and tests will be explained to you and passed onto to your GP.
